'No Vacancy' Makes a Reservation for The EDGE District
We were heartbroken last month when KINGS Street Food Counter announced plans to close their modern-style diner in Downtown St. Pete’s EDGE District. The eatery premiered three years ago at 937 Central Avenue amid much fanfare thanks to a menu of creatively crafted grilled cheeses and hot dogs.
At the time, owner Stephen Schrutt was taking a big risk by opening KINGS in the EDGE District, which hadn’t yet gained the popularity it has today. The restaurant did well, but was ultimately overshadowed by Schrutt’s other Downtown St Petersburg concepts — theAvenue and Park & Rec.
If there is a silver lining to the end of KINGS, it is what comes next. We can now confirm that No Vacancy will be opening at 937 Central Ave. Get ready to soak in those vintage Florida vibes because No Vacancy is bringing everything but the sand to Downtown St. Pete!
Unlike KINGS, No Vacancy will operate as a fun bar concept with great food, as opposed to a restaurant with alcohol. But that doesn't mean the food will be an afterthought. The food menu at No Vacancy will mostly consist of Florida-inspired shareable apps, sandwiches, bowls and salads. On Sundays, brunch will be served from 11am to 4pm.
Over the next few weeks, the 2,900 square foot space, which includes an indoor bar and outdoor patio, will be completely renovated into a design that was crafted by local interior design maven Lisa Gilmore.
Future plans for the space involve creating a better connection between the indoor bar, outdoor patio, and Central Ave sidewalk. Additionally, an awning over the patio may be installed to help mitigate the sweltering Florida heat.
