Indoor golf lounge The Irons Club swings into downtown St. Pete
An urban indoor golf experience is opening in the Grand Central District of downtown St. Pete.
The Irons Club plans to debut early next year at 2140 Central Avenue.
The 4,000-square-foot facility, which was previously home to Euphoria Salon and Day Spa, will feature four state-of-the-art Trackman simulators each holding up to eight players and a putting green fronting Central Avenue.
There will also be a 9-seat bar with hightop tables serving beer and wine and a food menu serving American bar fare.
The Irons Club's private golfing simulation bays will be equipped with lounge seating, golf clubs, and the latest golfing simulation technology from tech company Trackman, which was created in 2003 by brothers Klaus and Morten Eldrup-Jørgensen and radar engineer Fredrik Tuxen.
The software produces immersive 3D renders of hundreds of renowned golf courses that are displayed on the in-bay screen. Their suite of radar technology and software tracks the flight of every ball, giving real-time data points to improve a player's game.
The Irons Club aims to be fully private facility with a robust membership program, however, initially you won’t need to be a member to play.
Members will have priority access, exclusive benefits, and perks such as booking bays in advance via the Trackman app and The Irons Club website.
More details on the membership program will be announced at a later date. Be sure to sign up on The Iron's Club website to be notified when memberships go on sale.
“There will be leagues for members and non-members, both individuals and teams. We think it will be great for players to meet other like-minded people,” General Manager Jeff Anderson said to St. Pete Rising while giving a one-on-one tour.
Although there will be a big emphasis on giving players a hyper realistic golfing experience, you don't have to be a serious golfer to enjoy The Irons Club. The simulator features games like Closest to the Pin, Bullseye, Capture the Flag, and more.
“We want to have a cool, elevated spot with a country club feel amongst our members and guests - and if you're not into golf, you can still come and hang out, enjoy good food, and watch a game,” Anderson added.
Anderson, along with The Irons Club Director of Golf Patrick Mills, renovated the space that now boasts 26 large TVs that will stream professional soccer matches, hockey, football, and baseball games.
The Irons Club will also offer professional golf lessons and private events.
Head Chef Nicolas Raso plans to serve flatbreads, oven-baked wings, salads, ahi tuna, crab cake bites, and more shareable items and specials with an elevated approach.
“There will be a focus on quality and sourcing good ingredients,” said Raso, who hails from Iowa and moved to St. Pete earlier this year.
The flatbread menu includes selections like Pepperoni Moderno, which is made with a red sauce, mozzarella, and topped with cup-and-char pepperoni and a hot honey drizzle.
Another flatbread selection will be The Saltimbocca, which contains a creamy white sauce with mozzarella and gruyere cheese topped with thinly sliced prosciutto and fresh sage.
The wings are made with chicken brined for more than 24 hours, then oven-roasted, and either served naked or tossed in one of four sauces — Citrus Chipotle BBQ, Nashville Hot, Chimichurri, and Caribbean Jerk.
The bar will offer six taps of local craft brews and Michelob ULTRA.
The Irons Club is expected to open around 8 a.m. for early risers who want to get some swings in before the workday and close at 10 p.m. from Monday through Thursday. There will be extended hours on the weekends.
While this is Anderson's first Irons Club location, he's been a lifelong entrepreneur and intends to scale the business.
Growing up in Madeira Beach, Anderson watched and worked with his grandparents at their Carvel Ice Cream shop. Later in life, Anderson operated a mobile dry cleaning business.
“We covered the whole county, multiple locations, and I really like that operation side, but I saw how the hospitality ties in. We would go into people's homes, pick up their clothes, we had keys for their homes and provided that level of service, and that's how I kind of built my business,” Anderson explained.
Several years ago amid the onset of the COVID pandemic, Anderson sold the business, eventually leading him to pursue a different venture.
“I was ready for a change, and just got together with some friends and local investors and said let's do this,” he said.
The Irons Club is expected to open in January at 2140 Central Avenue. Be sure to follow along on Instagram and sign up to receive updates on the Irons Club’s website.
