New boutique selling Anthropologie items to open on 4th Street
Shawna Ellis is entranced with the euphoric feeling of stepping into an Anthropologie store, known for its boho-chic clothing, shoes, accessories and home decor. She wants others to have a similar experience but with more wiggle room on price.
Ellis, an active commercial real estate agent in Tampa Bay, has signed a lease to open her new concept katie + hubbell, a retail shop selling new and pre-owned Anthropologie items, at 5320 4th Street North.
The new St. Pete boutique will carry items made by Anthropologie in addition to the 1,500+ brands that Anthropologie sells, including Maeve, BHLDN, and Farm Rio.
The 2,175-square-foot storefront was formerly occupied by Love My Dog Grooming and Boutique, which has relocated to 1010 18th Street North.
"I was originally looking to buy a business, but I started to see a huge demand for reselling Anthropologie items on marketplaces like Poshmark," Ellis said.
Although katie + hubbell will exclusively sell Anthropologie items’, the new shop is unaffiliated with the chain, which has a storefront in Tampa's Hyde Park Village.
Ellis named the store after characters from the 1972 American romantic drama movie "The Way We Are," starring Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford.
Those looking to sell their Anthropologie items, including clothes, shoes, accessories, and home decor, must still have the original tag on the product as tagless items lose their value, explained Ellis.
Katie + hubbell will accept clothes ranging from sizes XXS to 3X and offer store credit or cash upon receipt.
Today, Ellis has hundreds of Anthropologie items at her home awaiting the debut of her boutique later this summer.
"I love the smells, art, and decor of the stores and I want everyone to be able to experience their clothing by selling it at a markdown of at least 40 percent," Ellis said.
If all goes well, Ellis is interested in expanding the concept beyond St. Petersburg.
"This will be our proof of concept of a storefront. My goal is to open multiple stores throughout Florida," Ellis said.
Commercial Realty Partners broker Jay Billings represented the landlord in the lease transaction.
"This will be a good use for the space with a dental practice in the middle of the building and a nail salon on the south end," Billings said.
The space was on the market for five months before Ellis approached Commercial Realty Partners.
A grand opening for katie + hubbell is scheduled for August 24th.
During the grand opening celebration, a random customer will receive a gift card preloaded with $200 per month for an entire year.
The store will open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday through Sunday and will be closed on Mondays.
