Asian fusion restaurant Pin on Cafe finds a new home in the Grand Central District
Husband and wife duo Som and Roger Rattanachane, who operate Pin on Cafe and Pin Wok & Bowl in downtown St. Pete, will soon bring their Asian fusion cuisines to the Grand Central District.
Pin on Cafe, which debuted in 2021 at 1100 Central Avenue in the EDGE District, has been forced to find a new home as the existing location will be razed later this year for phase two of the EDGE Collective mixed-use development.
Known for its delicious twists on traditional Thai and Japanese dishes, Pin on Cafe is expected to debut this August at 2458 Central Avenue, formerly home to Valhalla Bakery and Proper Meats. Valhalla Bakery recently consolidated operations into the neighboring Valkyrie Doughnuts space.
Pin on Cafe’s new Grand Central spot, which is over twice the size of its current location, will contain 2,452 square feet of indoor space and tons of outdoor seating along Central Avenue and in an expansive 700-square-foot backyard.
The restaurant will be renamed Pin on Grand to reflect the location change.
Pin on Grand will still serve fan favorites such as crispy duck ramen, pad thai, Panang curry, and chicken katsu, along with fresh sushi, sashimi, and more. However, the Rattanachanes have even more in store for the new location.
"We are going to offer Thai pastries and desserts, boba teas, and specialty drinks with fruit from Asia," Som said to St. Pete Rising about the expanded menu for Pin on Grand.
The pair are currently in the process of securing a permit to build a full-service liquor bar inside the space, which will operate until 10 or 11 p.m.
The new location will continue to offer lunch and dinner specials.
The word Pin refers to a Thai instrument called a pin, a type of lute with a pear-shaped body. Roger has been part of an 80’s Rock 'n' Roll band for over 20 years and has hand-crafted numerous pins that will be displayed around the restaurant.
Roger first got into the restaurant industry in 2011 when his family opened Sab Cafe, a Pan Asian restaurant, at 111 2nd Avenue NE in downtown St. Pete, where Som also worked.
Som and Roger, who are respectively from Thailand and Laos, decided to strike out on their own in 2017 to open the Thai-sushi restaurant Pin Wok & Bowl at 445 Central Avenue in downtown St. Pete.
After much success, the couple brought their Thai and Japanese cuisine to 1100 Central Avenue in the EDGE District with Pin on Cafe in 2021.
Pin on Cafe will continue to serve customers in the EDGE District until Pin on Grand opens in August.
