Strum Place, an upcoming townhome community being built alongside a reimagined historic office space, is nearing completion on Central Avenue in west St. Pete.

St. Pete-based J Square Developers and Backstreets Capital are spearheading the nine-unit luxury townhome project at 6366 Central Avenue, located along the SunRunner bus rapid transit (BRT) route.

The project is named after The Strum family, one of the pioneering families of west St. Petersburg that resided in the two-story house after its completion in 1925. Alban D. “Al” Strum was a champion speedboat racer and the former Commodore of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, and his wife Shirley was a founder of St. Petersburg’s Junior League.

The Strums lived at the home for over 30 years until it was converted into a funeral home in 1958.

After purchasing the property in 2022, the team of local developers agreed to save the 100-year-old Strum House from the wrecking ball. The historic building will be renovated into a veterinary and grooming clinic called Heart + Paw.

The developers have also decided to preserve four mature oak trees along 64th Street to create privacy and protect the neighborhood’s tree canopy.

As for the nine townhomes surrounding the building, they’ll each feature 2,040 square feet of living space across three stories. The three bedroom, three-and-a-half bath units will contain an expansive second-floor balcony, a two-car garage, a chef's kitchen with quartz countertops, and high-end curated design options for flooring, lighting, and other features.

Buyers also have the option of installing a private elevator.

Additionally, three corner units will offer private fenced side yards for families with pets, a rare feature for new townhome developments.

Five of the nine townhomes are currently under contract and pricing for the remaining four homes start at the $700,000s.  

The team is currently installing unit finishes and expects to complete and deliver the project by the first quarter of this year.
