St. Pete’s biggest art event, the internationally recognized SHINE Mural Festival will see over 20 mural artists gather in the Sunshine City this Friday to kickoff its seventh annual edition. From October 15-24, a mix of local and visiting artists will create sixteen new public works of art throughout Downtown and the arts districts plus three community “Bright Spots” murals that aim to engage and inspire.

An official map detailing the location of all the 2021 projects was released last week by St. Petersburg Arts Alliance (SPAA), the nonprofit that produces the event each year.

Four of St. Pete’s art districts will be getting new murals. Two new works of art are coming to the Central Arts District, four to the EDGE District, three to the Grand Central District, and seven to the Warehouse Arts District.

“We’re excited to bring another round of incredible murals from some of the top contemporary street artists, locally, nationally, and internationally,” said Jenee Priebe, Associate Director of the SHINE Mural Festival. “While we’re still feeling the impacts of COVID-19, it’s an honor to be able to support our artists and continue to bring something new to St. Pete this year.”

The St Pete Arts Alliance will host Four events during this year’s SHINE Mural Festival. Join the festivities at the Morean Arts Center, Bayboro Brewing Co, Mize Gallery, and d-Gallerie.

SPAA will host four events during the festival. An artists’ reception will take place at the Morean Arts Center this Friday from 5-8pm. The main gallery also features a SHINE artist group show, which runs through the end of October.

On Saturday October 16th, head over to Bayboro Brewing for the SHINE kickoff party featuring the release of Spraycation, a new strawberry, orange, passionfruit ale brewed to commemorate the SHINE Mural Festival. Spraycation Day will offer locally crafted beer, live tattoo art, vintage cars, live music and a SHINE mural in progress.

Celebrate the conclusion of the SHINE Mural Festival at MIZE Gallery on Friday October 22nd from 6-10pm. The SHINE exhibit will feature 77 artists who have each created new works on 16” circular canvases. There will also be live t-shirt printing, Montana Can Sculptures by Noah Deledda, the SHINE 7 Lucid Vending Machine, a custom free flow Polaris Slingshot by Chad Mize, and food & drinks from Uptown Eats.

Also on Friday the 22nd, be sure to check out d-railed, a group exhibition featuring graffiti model trains, from 6-10pm at d-gallerie located at 1234 Dr M.L.K. Jr Street North.

Since 2015, SHINE has created more than 100 murals throughout downtown and the surrounding arts districts. “By using the walls and streets as canvas, SHINE transforms our shared spaces into a world-class outdoor gallery,” says Priebe.
