Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series bringing 88-foot dives to the St. Pete Pier this June

Red Bull’s Cliff Diving World Series is coming to Florida for the first time ever, and St. Petersburg will be its debut host.

The global high diving series will take place June 4th through June 6th at the St. Pete Pier, where professional divers from around the world will compete for prize money and the coveted King Kahekili trophy.

Competition unfolds over three days, beginning with practice dives and preliminary rounds on Thursday, June 4th and Friday, June 5th. Those sessions will not be open to the public.

The main event, featuring additional practice dives, semifinals, and finals, will take place on Saturday, June 6th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is expected to draw roughly 20,000 spectators throughout the day.

The custom dive tower will be installed in the parking lot of the St. Petersburg Museum of History, rising 21 meters (68.8 feet) for female competitors and 27 meters (88.5 feet) for male divers.

In just a few seconds of freefall, athletes can reach speeds of up to 50 miles per hour while executing complex twists and rotations before entering the water below.

Five international judges will score each dive based on creativity, acrobatic execution, and overall athletic performance.

“There is uncharted territory for the circuit, and history is ready to be written,” the Red Bull website notes. “With the season now in full swing and divers fighting for early positioning in the championship standings, the first-ever winners at this Florida stop will become part of a new chapter in the series.”

Spectators will be able to watch from anywhere on the pier, the waterfront parks, or from boats anchored in the bay.

Large LED screens and jumbotrons will also be set up to enhance viewing throughout the site.

As with most stops on the tour, there is typically no cost to attend, and the event will also be streamed on Red Bull TV.

St. Petersburg is part of a global circuit that will span multiple continents. The season will arrive in Florida following a stop in Bali, Indonesia, before continuing on to Copenhagen, Denmark; Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina; Polignano a Mare, Italy; and Muscat, Oman.
