Toy and collectible shop Cultösaurus moving to Central Avenue

Cultösaurus will move to 529 Central Avenue, formerly home to RockShop, in downtown St. Pete | St pete Rising

Cultösaurus is in the process of relocating from 269 16th Street North to 529 Central Avenue, the former location of RockShop, a jewelry store that features hand-crafted works created by owner Carlos Lopez, the brother of Cultösaurus owner T.J. Lopez.

The move gives Cultösaurus, a store that specializes in a wide range of toys, books, art, and collectible items, a more visible presence in downtown St. Petersburg’s booming Central Avenue corridor. But it won’t happen right away, even though the 16th Street location is scheduled to shutter in the coming days.

“We have a few weeks to go before we finally move into the new place at 529 Central,” Lopez writes in an email to St. Pete Rising. “It’s been a long process, but we are making progress.”

When the new and improved Cultösaurus does open, however, it will add yet another patch to Central Avenue’s eclectic quilt of boutique retail establishments. Fans of everything from Marvel and DC comic books to Star Wars, The Simpsons, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be able to find unique items to add to their collections.

True to the word “cult” in the store’s name, you can even find toys, artwork, and action figures from more obscure TV and movie franchises, such as Futurama, Masters of the Universe, Evil Dead/Army of Darkness, Bob’s Burgers, Planet of the Apes, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), Ghostbusters, and many more.

Cultösaurus also sometimes hosts appearances by artists whose creations are sold in the store.

As for RockShop, it isn’t going far: It moved right next door to 531 Central Avenue, which has about double the space of its former home.

At its former location, Cultösaurus had limited hours and was open only three days per week, but it’s unknown whether that will change after the business moves to its new home.
