Aldi supermarket sets opening date for new store near Tyrone Square Mall in west St. Pete

Good news for residents in west St. Petersburg! Aldi has announced the opening date for its newest store at 6765 22nd Avenue North near Tyrone Square Mall.

The discount supermarket chain will open its newest store on February 1st in a retail space formerly occupied by Hitchcock's Green Market and Lucky's Supermarket.

Aldi is planning several promotions to celebrate the opening including a sneak peak of the store on January 31st followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony on February 1st at 8:30 A.M.

The first 100 customers on February 1st will receive a Golden Ticket that could be worth up to $100 and shoppers can enter for a chance to win a $500 Aldi gift card.

The store will also be giving out free shopping totes to customers while supplies last.

The 28,605-square-foot Aldi store is adjacent to Tyrone Square Mall in a shopping center shared by Dick’s Sporting Goods, PetSmart, and Five Below, among other retailers.

The shopping center was purchased by Boston Capital LLC from Seritage Growth Properties for $37.8 million in September 2023. While Boston Capital now owns the shopping center, the rest of the Tyrone Square Mall continues to be owned by Simon Property Group.

Aldi is a globally recognized grocer with over 11,000 stores worldwide. The company operates on a low-cost business model that offers high-quality goods at a significantly lower price than competitors. 

While Aldi is a German grocer, it expects to grow in the southeastern United States and is planning to acquire 400 Winn-Dixie stores across Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi.  

The opening of Aldi at Tyrone Square Mall will be the third location in St. Petersburg, FL.
