Itching for some fresh ink? The largest privately owned tattoo company Atomic Tattoos is opening a new shop in downtown St. Petersburg.

Atomic Tattoos, which has locations throughout Tampa Bay, including in the Tyrone Square Mall, will open the tattoo and body piercing shop at 2434 Central Avenue next to the Tubular Tokes convenience store and vape shop.

Atomic Tattoos founders and husband-and-wife duo Clay and Laurie Montgomery purchased the building this month for $1.025 million. It was previously occupied by Charles Edward Salon and the Joel Schmitz CPA firm.

The new 1,800-square-foot shop, which will debut later this year, will become the seventh tattoo establishment in the Grand Central District.

The company started in 2001 in Largo at 9043 Ulmerton Road. In the 2010s, the chain had a shop on 34th Street.

Atomic Tattoos has since expanded across Tampa Bay with additional studios in Lakeland, Orlando, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

All of Atomic Tattoos' shops house professional body piercers and seasoned tattoo artists specializing in different styles. The chain prides itself on the quality service and safety in its establishments.

The Montogomery's son-in-law, Caio “Chopper” Chermon, who specializes in traditional Japanese tattooing at the Ybor City Atomic Tattoos location, will manage the new shop.

"We have a large pool of artists and piercers and are hiring more to fill the spots," Clay said in a conversation with St. Pete Rising.

The owners are remodeling the Central Avenue space and expect to open in October.

The Montgomerys are also in the process of opening a Clearwater Beach storefront.
