Downtown St. Pete sports bar The Avenue to close after 13 years
/Beloved downtown St. Pete restaurant and bar The Avenue will permanently close its doors this weekend after 13 years in business.
In a conversation with St. Pete Rising, owner Stephen Schrutt says his lease at 330 1st Avenue South is ending soon and he was not able to come to terms on a new lease with his landlord. The Avenue will not relocate.
The downtown neighborhood burger joint and sports bar will host a “Last Call” party on Saturday, February 22nd, for customers to raise a glass one last time before the final goodbye.
“This place has been so much more than just a restaurant and bar—it was home. A place where memories were made, good times were celebrated, and the spirit of DTSP truly came to life,” Schrutt said in an announcement.
Schrutt is the founder of Hunger Thirst Group, which owns a handful of other popular restaurants and bars in St. Pete, including Dirty Laundry, No Vacancy, Park & Rec DTSP, Good Fortune, Lost & Found, Concrete Jungle, and the upcoming Summer Camp.
The Avenue has been a cornerstone of the St. Pete community—a gathering place for friends, families, and sports fans alike.
Over the years, it has been the backdrop for countless celebrations, legendary game-day moments, epic parties, and unforgettable holidays. From buzzer-beaters to championship Sundays, from live music nights to the biggest block parties, The Ave has always been about bringing people together, the release read.
“To all of our loyal customers and the hardworking teams who have been part of The Avenue family over the years, I cannot thank you enough,” added Schrutt. “You made this place special. The memories made—I will cherish them always!"
