New York-based retailer Foot Locker has announced it will move its global headquarters to St. Petersburg, according to the company’s second quarter financial earnings report.

“To further support strategic progress against the Lace Up Plan, Foot Locker, Inc. is also announcing that it will move its global headquarters to St. Petersburg, Florida in late 2025,” says the release.

“The intent of the relocation is to further build on the Company's meaningful presence in St. Petersburg and to enable increased collaboration among teams across banners and functions, while also reducing costs.”

After the move, the retailer expects to maintain a minimal presence in New York City.

Foot Locker already maintains a corporate office in St. Petersburg at 140 Fountain Parkway in the Carillon Office Park.

The headquarters is expected to be at least 100,000 square feet.

As part of the move, Foot Locker will also open a Global Technology Services (GTS) Hub in Dallas, Texas to “accelerate technology delivery and cross-functional collaboration,” according to the company.

The announcement ends yearslong speculation over whether the company would move to St. Petersburg.

The retailer was rumored to be eyeing a move to the Sunshine City in 2021 when the St. Petersburg City Council approved $475,000 in financial incentives for an unnamed Fortune 500 company dubbed Project Athena.

To receive the incentives, the company would need to bring 300 new jobs to St. Petersburg and pay an average wage above $120,000 per year.
