Popular vegan restaurant Golden Dinosaurs will permanently close
/Golden Dinosaurs, regarded as one of the best vegan restaurants in Tampa Bay, will be closing permanently later this month.
Located at 2930 Beach Boulevard in Gulfport, the popular vegan deli and bakery that slings plant-based sandwiches and sweets announced the upcoming closure on social media late last week.
“The era of vegan restaurant extinction seems to be upon us, and Gold Dinos will unfortunately not survive the apocalypse,” owners Brian and Audrey Dingeman wrote.
The husband-and-wife duo, also owners of St. Pete's Good Intentions vegan restaurant, cited economic challenges for closing the fast-casual space that opened in 2018.
“This past fiscal year combined with back-to-back hurricanes was the final nail in the coffin, and we’ve had to make the extremely difficult decision to shut her down,” the Instagram post read.
“Thanks to our friends and families during this difficult time for being there for us emotionally. This was not an easy decision and we’re already grieving the loss of our very unique little spot.”
Most of Golden Dinosaurs' items are made from scratch, and it is widely known for its tasty plant-based meat made from seitan (wheat gluten) and tempeh (soybean), satisfying vegans and omnivores alike.
Golden Dinosaurs also makes customer cakes and serves kombucha, beer on draft, and other drinks from local businesses.
Customers can still grab items like the Pastrami Reuben Sandwich, Barbecue Tofu, and Buffalo Tempeh at Golden Dinos until the doors close for good on January 19th.
The restaurant is open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Golden Dinosaurs is closed on Wednesday.
“Please be patient with us during our last week as we expect it to be busy so everyone can come get their final Dino meal. We also want to thank You! We wouldn’t be here at all without you, and we’re so grateful for your continued support,” the team wrote.
The restaurant owners will shift their full focus to their other establishment Good Intentions, a full-service New American vegan restaurant located at 1900 1st Avenue South in St. Pete’s Grand Central District.
