Toss Salads and Wraps Brings Affordable, Healthy Food to Downtown St. Pete
/If your wallet cries every time you crave something healthy and delicious, don't worry—we have some news to make it smile.
Opening today at 600 1st Avenue North in Downtown St. Pete, Toss Salads & Wraps is ushering in a wave of tasty, nutritious, and affordable food in downtown St. Pete. With prices from $6.99 to $10.99 (and a little extra if you add more to your salad), Toss proves that eating healthy doesn’t have to break the bank.
The concept behind Toss is simple: a “builder” gathers your ingredients and hands them to a “chopper,” who dices the food and mixes them in a bowl. Sandwich lovers, rejoice! Each salad can be rolled into a wrap as well—for $0.30 less! Each order is customizable, hand-crafted to your taste buds, so feel free to add quinoa, avocado, mozzarella balls, and more to your heart’s content.
Just grab a seat at the bar top, plug in your phone at a handy USB charging station, and watch your food come to life. In a rush? Select a pre-designed salad like the “Toss Signature” or “The Southwestern” for an easy takeout option. Planning a vegan or vegetarian-friendly party? Not to worry—a catering menu is in the works!
Owners Chris and Christina Battafarano are Florida natives—and noticed the city lacked a spot to grab healthy, affordable food. They stand by their mission, “To bring fresh and nutritious food options to downtown St. Petersburg, without compromising on the taste. TOSS Salads & Wraps was grown to do just that.”
Chris is no stranger to the restaurant business. After managing a small cafe in Tampa, the two set their sights on St. Pete. They wanted to be in the heart of the lively downtown atmosphere.
In-tune with St. Petersburg’s vibrant art scene, Toss aims to provide a laid-back, stylish place to gather. Customers can sit indoors and gaze at some eye-catching murals or head out to the courtyard and cool off with a glass of tea, Pellegrino, or fountain drink. Indoor seating fits around 30 customers and 20 outside.
Toss puts your safety first—and your COVID fears to rest. In accordance with coronavirus guidelines, every employee wears a mask. Customers line up six feet away from each other, following stickers on the floor. Toss provides hand sanitizer as well—and the menus are disposable.
Is your mouth watering looking at the menu, but you can’t decide what to eat? Consider the “Big Daddy,” a chicken and steak combo with Green Goddess and balsamic dressing. “Gianni’s Fav,” named after the Battafarano’s 2-year-old son, looks just as tasty, topped with bacon, Mandarin oranges, and more!
For years downtown St. Pete lacked a restaurant dedicated to salads, but the competition has been heating up recently. Less than a year ago, a salad concept from Chef David Benstock of Il Ritorno debuted on the 400 block of Central Avenue, just two blocks away from Toss. And window decals for The Salad Chop went up last week at 405 Central Avenue, a space formerly occupied by The Cupcake Spot.
For those trying to lead a healthier lifestyle or simply craving affordable, good food, Toss brings an exciting addition to the downtown food scene.
Toss Salads & Wraps opens today at 600 1st Ave N. in the Central Arts District, down the street from The Cider Press Cafe.
Toss will be open from 11 AM to 8 PM Monday through Saturday. Be sure to follow them on Instagram and Facebook for the latest updates.
