The Cake Drip, a unique dessert boutique, is coming soon to the EDGE District

The Cake Drip is coming soon to the EDGE District of St Petersburg. Pictured here is their Hyde Park Village location in Tampa, which opened a few weeks ago.

The Cake Drip, a unique dessert boutique that offers a DIY chocolate bar and cake decorating experience, is coming this summer to 1104 Central Avenue in the EDGE District. The space was previously home to Plain Jane, a women’s boutique, which recently moved five blocks away to 621 Central Avenue.

Get ready to escape into a magical world filled with bright colors, flowers galore, and dreamy decor that doubles as the perfect backdrop for Instagram-worthy selfies. Once you step foot inside The Cake Drip, the fun really begins.

A reservation guarantees you an hour’s experience of sweetness and enjoyment.  When you book your reservation at The Cake Drip, you can choose one of two options — the DIY chocolate bar flight tasting or DIY cake decorating.

If you select the chocolate bar flight tasting, you’ll start by picking the chocolate base — milk, dark, or white chocolate. Now you can let your creativity and taste buds loose with the addition of up to three mix-ins such as marshmallows, assorted nuts, sprinkles, potato chips, or cookie crumbles. There are over 25 mix-ins to choose from.

Chef Faronda Davis, owner of The Cake Drip

While your chocolate bar hardens and is packaged by the staff, you and your party can snack on a customizable treat box with chocolate fondue as well as munch on chocolate-shaped spoons and cheesecake bites.

The DIY cake decorating experience allows you to choose from one of the customized three-layer cakes.

“The cakes have all been designed by our eighteen-year-old daughter, Iyla, and you and your party can be involved in every step of the decoration process,” says owner Chef Faronda Davis. “Our guests spend an hour laughing, moving to the upbeat music, and snacking on sweets while they work together to create their final culinary masterpiece.”

If reservations are full, you can purchase kits to create chocolate bars and cakes at home with your friends or family.

There are also yummy desserts that can be ordered to-go (and without a reservation) at a kiosk that’ll be located at the studio’s entrance. From macaroons, cake drip cups, popcorn, and customized treat boxes, you are sure to find something to satisfy your sweet tooth. Just key in your order on the touchscreen and pop into the studio for a few photos while you wait for your goodies.

From the moment The Cake Drip opened in Hyde Park less than a month ago, its popularity skyrocketed. Currently, most of their reservations are full until early August. So, the decision to bring the second location to St. Pete was a no-brainer.

In the words of Faronda, “With all of the exciting changes that are happening in St. Pete, from the pier to the downtown area, the EDGE District is the perfect place to bring our flair and fun.”

And there is even more in store for the St. Pete location. “We are going to be turning it up a notch. We will offer a combination of brunch and lounge vibe with a full bar. Opening at 9 am and closing at 8 pm allows us to have fun with the brunch menu while still offering the night crowd a place to drink and dive into delectable desserts.”

Faronda and her husband, Steven Davis, never imagined opening a luxury dessert boutique. In fact, they didn’t start planting their roots in the food industry until they had their daughter, who is now 18.

Both Faronda and Steven are South St. Pete natives but moved to the midwest where they opened a cooking school for children called ABC Chefs Cooking School in 2008. The school opened in St. Louis and has since expanded to four locations with two more opening in California. ABC Chefs Cooking School became known for hosting 10-week cooking summer camps for kids (ages 2-17) from all around the world.

When you book your reservation at The Cake Spot, you can choose one or two options -- the DIY chocolate bar flight tasting or DIY cake decorating

After moving back to Tampa, Faronda saw an opportunity in Hyde Park Village. “Our kids in the cooking school have been doing DIY chocolate bar and cake decorating since the beginning. So, I just took two of the most popular things we had already been doing and shifted it to a more adult-friendly experience.”

Faronda and Steven’s daughter, who is a celebrity chef and has worked with the likes of Gordon Ramsey and Guy Ferri, took the idea and came up with the name of the business and designed the menu.

The Cake Drip’s growth is all about family and community, which is why the St. Pete location will be led by Faronda’s mom whose fun and bright personality will be the perfect addition to the lively EDGE District.

The Cake Drip’s St. Pete location will be instagramable from every angle. A grand opening is expected in early June.

While work has just begun at 1104 Central Ave in anticipation for an early June opening, take a trip over the bridge to check out The Cake Drip’s Hyde Park location. Be sure to follow The Cake Drip on Instagram and Facebook for the latest updates and visit their website to order online.
