Mixed-use project with 163-key Moxy Hotel to break ground in St. Pete's EDGE District

A mixed-use development planned for downtown St. Pete’s EDGE District is moving forward and will break ground in the second quarter of this year.

The project, known as the Edge Collective, is a joint venture between Miami-based PTM Partners (PTM) and Fort Lauderdale-based and DoveHill Capital Management (DoveHill).

The Edge Collective will be located at 1234-1246 Central Avenue.

The Edge Collective will be built on a 1.6-acre site at 1234-1246 Central Avenue that PTM purchased in October 2019 for $13 million. The parcel is currently home to the EDGE Collective Urban Market Place, a temporary market that opened in 2021 just before the Super Bowl.

Anchoring the Edge Collective development will be a 163-key Moxy Hotel by Marriott, which will be the first lifestyle hotel in the EDGE District.

St. Pete-based Storyn Studio is the lead architect for the hotel, which was originally announced in November 2019 but was put on hold at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, with more certainty in the market and strong demand for downtown hotel rooms, PTM and DoveHill are now ready to move forward.

A mid-block paseo will open to an outdoor garden with seating and retail space.

“Along with DoveHill, we are looking forward to breaking ground in 2022 and beginning to reintroduce this dynamic project to a neighborhood we believe in for the long-term,” said Michael Tillman, Chief Executive Officer of PTM.

Complimenting the hotel will be an outdoor garden and retail paseo as well as a refurbished 4-story 17,000 square foot building located adjacent to the planned Moxy Hotel.

The original plan for the building, which is currently vacant, was for Tampa’s Hall on Franklin to open a food hall on the ground floor and St. Pete’s Station House to operate coworking space on the upper floors. Those plans have been scrapped.

“The Moxy Hotel will anchor the EDGE District’s culturally rich community and will fast become a dining and entertainment hub,” says Jake Wurzak, Founder and CEO of DoveHill. ”Our new project will focus on place-making and will elevate the hospitality experience downtown.”

The Moxy Hotel will feature a rooftop pool, bar and restaurant.

The St. Peterburg Moxy will feature a lobby bar, coffee shop, retail space, along with a rooftop pool, bar, and restaurant.

“We are confident that all of the components are now in place to bring our vision of the Edge Collective to fruition,” said Nicholas Pantuliano, Chief Development Officer and Chief Operations Officer of PTM. “The mixed-use development will offer an innovative and inclusionary destination for the community and tourists to experience, which will further complement the neighborhood’s dynamic offering.”

The Moxy will be managed by Wurzak Hotel Group and is expected to open in late 2023.
