Bayfront Health unveils plans for 60,000 square foot Women's Pavilion in downtown St. Pete
/St. Petersburg’s largest and oldest hospital, Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, has unveiled plans to construct a three-story, 60,000 square foot Women’s Pavilion, the company announced last week.
The new state-of-the-art outpatient complex will be built at 700 6th Street South on the east side of the hospital’s 480-bed downtown St. Petersburg campus. Construction will involve the demolition and relocation of the hospital’s Family Care Center which is currently home to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg’s residency programs.
Bayfront Health has partnered with Women’s Care, a Tampa-based specialty women’s health physician group, to bring the new facility to life. Women’s Care operates a network of over 100 locations, where they perform more than 2.4 million annual patient encounters and deliver more than 23,000 newborns a year.
“Construction of the Bayfront Health Women’s Pavilion and the partnership with Women’s Care will usher in the next generation of advanced healthcare for the region,” said John Moore, President, Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. “We are focused on growth and becoming the premiere destination for women’s care in Tampa Bay.”
The Women’s Pavilion will have the latest imaging tools for screening and diagnostic capabilities and will also be home to a multi-specialty practice with access to specialties like urogynecology.
Women’s Care will also provide many of its service lines in the new Pavilion, such as comprehensive care in obstetrics, gynecology, women’s health and cancer care through all phases of life, from pre-teen to post-menopausal years.
“As we rapidly expand nationwide as a leading U.S. women’s healthcare group, we are committed to providing an environment that creates a holistic patient experience and the state-of-the-art women’s pavilion will help make this possible in Tampa Bay,” said Ellen Bower, chief operating officer at Women’s Care.
The hospital has selected Haskell, Inc., to design and construct the Women’s Pavilion, which is expected to break ground by the end of the year and open in early fall 2024.
The expansion of Bayfront’s downtown St. Pete campus is another exciting advancement for the hospital, which had experienced a decline in patient care and financial health before being acquired by Orlando Health in October 2020.
Orlando Health, a not-for-profit healthcare organization with $8 billion of assets under management, has made sweeping changes to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg in the two years they’ve owned the hospital.
After the acquisition, the new owners surveyed team members, patients, and community members and began implementing enhanced staffing and education opportunities, improved work-life balance, targeted career opportunities, and added tuition reimbursement for team members.
Additionally, improvements were quickly made to the current facility, such as exterior painting, waterproofing the building’s exterior, and performing needed repairs.
Bayfront Health St. Petersburg also commenced construction earlier this year on a new facility located at 1800 66th Street in west St. Pete. The three-story, 42,000-square-foot medical pavilion and 14,000-square-foot emergency room will include 12 exam rooms, two resuscitation rooms, six waiting areas, and an ambulance bay. The new facility is expected to begin serving patients in January 2023.
