A pair of restaurants to bring Mediterranean fare and wings to Seminole
/New restaurant tenants are joining Seminole City Center at 11201 Park Boulevard in Seminole.
Mediterranean fast-casual eatery CAVA and the New York-based Sugar Wing have secured spaces in the open-air shopping center.
Sugar Wing operates four locations in New York City’s Upper East Side, West Village, East Village, and Battery Park as well as an outpost in Clifton, NJ. This will be the company’s sixth location and first Florida outpost, however a location is also coming to Carrollwood.
As for CAVA, this will be its second location in Pinellas County and sixth location in Tampa Bay. The franchise operates over 300 locations around the country.
Tampa-based HGC Development Group is the lead contractor for the interior buildout at Sugar Wing’s space, which was formerly occupied by Willie Jewell's Old School Bar-B-Q.
According to the Sugar Wing's website, they smoke their wings over oak, apple, and cherry wood before being flash-fried.
The flavors/sauces include black cherry and classic BBQ, buffalo, Korean chili and soy, Alabama white, a spicy sauce, and a Cajun dry rub.
The franchise is also known for its crispy chicken sandwiches that are drenched in wing sauce.
Sugar Wing's sides include sweet corn fritters, fries, and mac & cheese.
The restaurant will join Cold Stone Creamery and Irish 31 Pub House & Eatery in the multi-tenant building, which is adjacent to Studio Movie Grill.
Sugar Wing has not announced an opening date. Hours of operation are also unknown, however Sugar Wing's existing restaurants are open every day from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.
CAVA, which offers a build-your-own-bowl business model, is also opening a restaurant on a corner parcel at 11165 Park Boulevard.
Texas-based ELS Construction, a design-build team that's developed multiple CAVA restaurants, is spearheading the buildout for the space, which previously operated as a BurgerFi.
An on-site contractor said the team will complete the interior work in three to four weeks.
The Washington DC-based chain opened its first St. Petersburg restaurant at 1320 4th Street in 2022.
CAVA customers can customize wraps and salad-and-grain-based bowls with hummus, falafel, lentils, tzatziki sauce, eggplant dip, avocado, broccoli, olives, and other various toppings and dressings.
CAVA serves made-in-house drinks with fruity flavors such as pineapple apple mint, blueberry lavender, and cucumber mint lime.
Their desserts include salted oak chocolate cookies and brownies, which are baked by Whisked, a woman-owned, DC-based bakery, and New York-based Greystone Bakery.
CAVA has not announced an opening date for the Seminole store. Its St. Pete location is open every day from 10:45 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The building also houses a Verizon store and Pieology Pizzeria.
The 37-acre, 424,000-square-foot Seminole City Center houses dozens of additional retailers and restaurants.
In 2016, Primerica Group One Inc. and North American Development Group redeveloped the Seminole City Center, converting the former enclosed mall into an open-air shopping center.
Since then, retailers and gyms such as Esporta Fitness, Five Below, Home Goods, PETCO, CRUMBL Cookies, and Studio Movie Grill have leased spaces in the plaza.
Additionally, construction work is underway on a 24,000-square-foot grocery store operated by The Fresh Market, which was previously home to Earth Fare.
