Call it a pup crawl! Pet parents and patrons will soon be able to grab a craft beer and watch their dogs run wild inside an expansive new off-leash dog park and sports bar coming soon to Largo.

Barks and Brews Taphouse, a 7,000-square-foot dog bar, will open later this summer at 14219 Walsingham Road in Largo's Walsingham Village retail center.

"When my friend [Chris Bailey] got a dog, we went to a couple of dog bars in downtown St. Pete and thought it was an awesome concept to bring to the suburbs," co-owner Patrick Kelly said in a conversation with St. Pete Rising.

Kelly, a recently retired middle school teacher and a former soccer coach, is teaming up with partners Chris Bailey, a current teacher, and Rian Fehrman, a UPS store operator who coached soccer with Kelly, to bring the new concept to life.

The trio started scouting for a property in 2022 before landing on the Largo facility, which was previously occupied by a pet spa.

Barks and Brews Taphouse will have a fenced-in 4,000-square-foot outdoor turf yard in front of the building and a 1,000-square-foot side yard for small dogs and private birthday parties.

The 2,000-square-foot indoor space will have a bar with at least 20 taps serving craft beer and wine.

The bar will be separate from the dog play areas; however, a service window will allow pet parents to order drinks from the park.

While no food will be served, Kelly said they plan to work with a local nearby restaurant to offer food for patrons. Coffee may also be offered in the future.

Prior to visiting, dogs must be registered and have recent shot records uploaded to the Barks and Brews website.

The dog bar will be mostly membership-based, but day passes will be available for $10. A monthly membership will be $30, a six-month pass will be $165, and an annual pass will be $300.

Patrons without dogs can enter Barks and Brews Taphouse for free.

Bark and Brews Taphouse plans to be open from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday through Thursday, 1 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 12 a.m. on Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, and closed on Mondays.

Barks and Brews Taphouse will join a roster of popular dog bars throughout the area such as St. Pete’s first dog waterpark Mutts and Martinis and The Dog Bar in St. Petersburg, which is ranked as one of the nation’s most dog-friendly cities.
