Louisiana-based fried chicken chain Raising Cane's is expanding its footprint in Tampa Bay with a new Largo location.
Raising Cane's plans to open a new drive-thru restaurant on an outparcel at 10500 Ulmerton Road, near the Largo Plaza shopping mall. The site was previously occupied by a Red Lobster, which closed in May 2024 after the company announced it was considering filing for bankruptcy.
Plans submitted to the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFMD) show that the existing building will be demolished and replaced with a new 2,683-square-foot Raising Cane's restaurant featuring a two-lane drive-thru and surface parking.
Engineering firm Kimley-Horn Associates and architecture firm PM Design Group are leading the development.

Raising Cane's opened its first Pinellas County location in 2023 on Gulf to Bay Boulevard in Clearwater, after purchasing the site for $4.5 million and demolishing a former Village Inn. A few months later, it opened a second Clearwater location at 4835 East Bay Drive.
The chain is also preparing to open a location near the Tyrone Square Mall in St. Pete on August 5th, as first reported by St. Pete Rising.
Today, Raising Cane's has over 800 locations throughout the United States.
Raising Cane’s, named after founder Todd Graves’s beloved yellow Labrador Retriever, Cane, has been growing in popularity since its debut in 1996 thanks to its signature chicken tenders.
The tenders are marinated with a special blend, fried in a canola oil mix, and served with Cane’s Sauce, a tangy mix of mayonnaise, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and spices.
Combo meals come in three-, four-, and six-piece options, each served with crinkle-cut fries, Texas Toast, coleslaw, and a drink.
The menu also includes lemonade and sweet tea by the gallon, as well as “tailgate” platters of chicken tenders.
The planned Largo location has not yet been added to the chain's list of current or upcoming restaurants. However, the chain typically opens new locations within a year of starting construction.
Existing restaurants open daily at 10 a.m. Closing times vary, but most locations close at midnight Sunday through Thursday and at 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
