Home goods and vintage shop Peacock Home to open in Grand Central District next month

Peacock Home, a shop specializing in vintage finds, globally sourced décor, and locally made goods, will open October 1st in St. Petersburg’s Grand Central District.
The 1,100-square-foot store will occupy the second floor of the building at 2635 Central Avenue, home to Hostess, a gift shop and event space.
It is the first brick-and-mortar retail venture from longtime St. Pete resident and interior designer Erika Basher.
Peacock Home grew out of a five-day pop-up Basher held at Hostess six months ago.
She rented a moving truck, brought in a collection of furniture, décor, and other finds, and sold nearly everything within five hours of opening.
“I’ve always been into interior design. It’s 100% a passion of mine,” Basher said in a conversation with St. Pete Rising. “I’ve made my living doing it, but I’ve never opened up a retail store.”
That response led Hostess owner Michelle Whiting to offer Basher the building’s upstairs space, which had recently operated as an Airbnb.
Basher is now converting it into Peacock Home, with several rooms staged to feel more like someone’s home than a conventional store.
“I want people to feel like they can walk in, walk around, and sit down and really take it in,” Basher said. “I want people to shop like they feel like they’re in my house.”

Guests will enter through “Peacock Alley”, a new entrance between Twisted Indian and Hostess, before taking a winding staircase to the shop.
Peacock Home will combine vintage pieces with new home goods, furniture, original art, ceramics, jewelry, accessories, apparel, leather goods, branded pillows, and smaller giftable items.
“An interesting part of the shop is that you’re not going to be able to tell what’s new and what’s old,” she said.
Much of the merchandise will be one of a kind. Basher recently returned from sourcing trips to France and Italy and is traveling to Marrakech before the opening, where she plans to look for textiles, rugs, jewelry, handbags, leather goods, and other finds.
Future trips to Mexico and Scotland are also on the horizon.
The store’s inventory will change frequently as Basher brings in new pieces, meaning shoppers who see something they love may not find it again on a later visit.
“I love instant gratification with design,” Basher said. “If this is a piece I love, I have to have it. But once it’s gone, it’s gone.”
Peacock Home will also carry work by local makers, including handmade Peacock Home ceramics by Caylee Biddison of Bahja Ceramics and artwork, cards, and other pieces by Danielle Armstrong of Decadent & Dainty. Basher is also developing a pillow line using vintage materials sourced locally.
She describes the shop’s aesthetic as eclectic, colorful, layered, and a little kitschy, with nods to Old Florida, Palm Beach, Southern California, and the places she visits abroad.

“I want it to be really funky, St. Pete,” Basher said. “A little kitschy, a little fun, and some seriousness all thrown in there.”
During its initial soft-opening period, Peacock Home’s hours will mirror Hostess’ schedule: 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, noon to 9 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Basher expects to expand hours as the business gets established.
Customers will also be able to book private shopping appointments and reserve Peacock Home for small gatherings. A grand opening celebration is expected in late October.
