Cold-pressed juice and smoothie bar Pure Green to open in the EDGE District

A cold-pressed juice and superfood smoothie bar is opening its first Tampa Bay location in downtown St. Pete.

New York City-based franchise Pure Green is preparing to debut at 1041 Central Avenue in the EDGE District. The space was formerly occupied by dessert shop Cecelia's Sweets & Vampire Penguin, which closed in late September.   

Pure Green sells nutrient-packed juices, made-to-order smoothies with superfood ingredients, and oatmeal and fruit bowls.

Upscale cigar and wine lounge Black Leaf to open in downtown St. Pete

After a long day, workers and residents will soon be able to unwind with a stogie and a glass of wine inside a new sophisticated cigar and wine lounge coming soon to downtown St. Pete.

The 4,000-square-foot Black Leaf Cigar and Wine Lounge is slated to open on November 30th at 237 2nd Avenue South. The space was previously occupied by arts and crafts shop Whim So Doodle, which closed in 2019 after 27 years and has since relocated to 2232 2nd Avenue South.

The new swanky lounge will offer top international cigar brands and a curated selection of wines via self-serve machines with 24 drinks on tap.

The punk rock-themed Voodoo Brewing Co. will serve high-quality craft beers, seltzer cocktails, and pub fare when the doors open this Saturday, October 26th at 220 4th Street North.

The 7,300-square-foot building, which formerly housed Orange Blossom Catering, is owned by St. Petersburg Hollander Hotel owner Michael Andoniades.

Located less than a block from the Bayboro Harbor, storm surge from Hurricane Helene flooded family-run establishments The Tavern at Bayboro and The Campus Grind when it made landfall in late September as a Category 4 storm in the Big Bend region of the Florida panhandle.

"We had over three feet of storm surge come through both restaurants. We lost our walk-in cooler that's structurally part of the building," Dennis Bixler said to St. Pete Rising.

Dennis and his wife Stephanie own the local live-music pub and restaurant at 120 6th Avenue South on the University of South Florida St. Petersburg campus.

Everything you need to know about next month’s SHINE Mural Festival

Over the past 10 years, local artists and artists from around the world have gathered in St. Pete for the SHINE Mural Festival. Each year, the artists create a handful of larger-than-life murals around urban St. Petersburg, infusing sections of the city with character and colors.

The 10th Annual SHINE Mural Festival, produced by local non-profit St. Petersburg Arts Alliance, will run from November 8th to 17th. The multi-day festival was originally scheduled for October 11th to 20th, but was postponed due to the widespread destruction caused by Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton.

Since its inception in 2015, the event has created nearly 170 murals throughout downtown and the surrounding arts districts.

EoS Fitness to open 40,000-square-foot gym in south St. Pete

The Dallas, Texas-based gym company EoS Fitness is expanding its footprint with its first St. Pete location.

EoS Fitness, a low-cost gym known for its smart technology and high-end amenities, will replace the old Bealls department store, which closed in July, at 2830 54th Avenue South just outside the city’s Skyway Marina District.

The 39,600-square-foot gym will join other tenants at the Seville Square shopping plaza such as Publix, Bank of America, and Truist.

Bealls was one of the original anchor tenants at Seville Square when the plaza was built in 1988. The Publix, located on the west side of the plaza, was originally an Albertsons when the building was constructed in 1976, pre-dating the rest of the shopping center by 12 years.

Future site of 170-unit senior living community trades hands in the Skyway Marina District

A Florida not-for-profit group is leading the development of a new active senior living community in St. Pete's Skyway Marina District.

Convivial Life, an organization based in Venice, Florida that manages senior living communities, has acquired a 5.25-acre property at 4595 34th Street South that was slated to be the future home of The Manhattan, a new senior living development.

Convivial Life purchased the property in a roughly $21.365 million deal from Sarasota-based LifeStar Living.

Crane collapse causes uncertain future for Karma Juice Bar and Eatery in downtown St. Pet

Karma Juice Bar and Eatery owner Josie Barber didn't realize it at the time, but her last-minute decision to not hunker down inside her downtown restaurant during Hurricane Milton potentially saved her life.

As Milton swept through Florida last week as a Category 3 storm, its high winds caused a tower crane at 400 Central, a 46-story luxury condo tower currently under construction in downtown St. Pete, to topple onto an office building that houses Karma Juice Bar and Eatery.

While no injuries were reported in the eight-story building, located at 490 1st Avenue South, the 500-foot-tall crane allowed rainwater to pour into the floors and set off the emergency sprinklers, causing additional damage.
