Sweetgreen is coming to downtown St. Pete
/A Los Angeles-based fast-casual restaurant serving made-to-order salads is coming to St. Pete in 2022.
Sweetgreen has signed a lease at 1114 Central Avenue in the EDGE District of downtown St. Pete. The space is currently home to the Central Arcade, a collective of businesses including Billy’s Corner Barber Shop and Healthy Hemp Outlet.
Plans recently submitted to the city indicate the new 4,000 square foot restaurant will have 27 seats inside and 16 seats outside along Central Avenue.
St. Pete isn’t the only city in Tampa Bay getting a Sweetgreen either. In October, Sweetgreen filed permits to construct a 2,300 square foot location in Tampa’s Hyde Park Village.
With around twenty salad options, Sweetgreen offers something for anyone looking to eat healthy, flavorful food. Gluten-free and vegan salad bowls are also available for those with dietary restrictions.
One of Sweetgreen’s most popular salads is the Kale Caesar Salad with roasted chicken, tomatoes, parmesan crisps, shaved parmesan, kale, chopped romaine, and a squeeze of lime all covered in Caesar dressing.
Another customer favorite is the Guacamole Greens Salad with lime cilantro jalapeño vinaigrette dressing drizzled over roasted chicken, avocado, tomatoes, red onion, shredded cabbage, tortilla chips, spring mix, and chopped romaine.
The warm bowls on Sweetgreen’s menu offer an alternative to a cold salad. The Harvest Bowl features roasted chicken and sweet potatoes, apples, goat cheese, roasted almonds, warm wild rice, shredded kale, and balsamic vinaigrette.
The Curry Cauliflower Bowl brings together sweet and spicy with roasted chicken, curry roasted cauliflower, shredded cabbage, cilantro, raisins, warm arugula, Sweetgreen hot sauce, and peppercorn dressing.
Additionally, some locations carry region-specific items like the Garlic Chili Shrimp Bowl in Houston and the Citrus Shrimp and Avocado Bowl in Miami.
Diners can also build a customized bowl from an assortment of approximately 40 freshly prepared or cooked ingredients.
Worried a salad won’t be enough food, Sweetgreen also offers side items, such as heirloom tomatoes & goat cheese, buffalo cauliflower, and sweet potato bites served with a plant-based cashew pesto dipping sauce.
Sweetgreen has been opened since 2007 and currently has 140 locations in the United States and growing. The mission of Sweetgreen is to reimagine fast food, but it goes beyond just using healthy ingredients. Each restaurant prepares their food from scratch with full transparency about their supply network.
Beyond the mission to provide real food to communities across the country, Sweetgreen is passionate about sustainability and their commitment to become carbon neutral by the end of 2027 to reduce the impact of climate change for future generations.
In November 2021, Sweetgreen became a publicly traded company, debuting on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “SG.”
In the company’s initial public offering (IPO) filing, the company stated that "Our bold vision is to be as ubiquitous as traditional fast food, but with the transparency and quality that consumers increasingly expect.”
Sweetgreen will open at 1114 Central Avenue in downtown St. Pete sometime in 2022.
