After months of anticipation, Aldi has officially announced the opening date for the new St. Petersburg store. The German-based discount grocer will welcome customers to its fourth St. Pete location on Thursday, November 6th at 8:45 a.m.

St. Pete Rising first reported that the Winn-Dixie at 3327 Dr. MLK Jr. Street North would be converted into an Aldi following the company’s acquisition of Southeastern Grocers, the parent company of Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket.

The store will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and will feature fresh, organic produce delivered daily, an extensive cheese and wine selection, and food options for a variety of lifestyles, including gluten-free and plant-based.

Shoppers will also have access to curbside pickup and grocery delivery.

To celebrate the grand opening, the first 100 customers will receive a gift bag filled with Aldi Fan Favorites and a Golden Ticket gift card. Shoppers can also enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win a $500 Aldi gift card throughout opening weekend.

“At our new St. Petersburg ALDI store, shoppers will find that every decision we make, from our product selection to store layout, is to provide our customers with the best products at the lowest possible prices of any national grocer,” said Matt Thon, Regional Vice President for ALDI.

“Our customers can save up to 36% on an average household’s shopping list. As shoppers look for better ways to stretch their dollar, ALDI is providing St. Petersburg with easier access to quality groceries at affordable prices.”

Aldi completed a $1.7 million renovation of its portion of the 46,048-square-foot building, with the remaining 22,063 square feet available for lease to other tenants.

The property was sold in 2022 for $10.5 million, when St. Petersburg-based Paradise Ventures transferred ownership to Westwood Investments LTD of South Florida.

The project is part of Aldi’s long-term growth strategy. The company plans to invest more than $9 billion over the next five years to add nearly 330 stores in the U.S. by the end of 2028.

Aldi’s store model is known for its curated selection of exclusive brands, which make up about 90% of its inventory. Families who switch to Aldi-exclusive products can save nearly $4,000 per year, according to the company.

The new and remodeled stores will also include sustainable features such as energy-efficient LED lighting, environmentally friendly refrigeration systems, and rooftop solar panels.

Once open, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street store will bring Aldi closer to completing its goal of 800 stores nationwide by 2028.

In July, St. Pete Rising reported on another Aldi store opening at 11100 4th Street North in the Bayview Shopping Plaza. An opening date for that store has not been announced.
