Good Gravy! Maple Street Biscuit Co. Opening in Downtown St. Pete

Good Gravy! Maple Street Biscuit Co. Opening in Downtown St. Pete

Comfort food enthusiasts, rejoice — Maple Street Biscuit Co. has their sights set on Downtown St. Pete.  The popular biscuit joint plans to open around year’s end at 662 Central Avenue, currently home to The Local 662.

Earlier this week, a majority of the 600 block’s south side was acquired by Tricera Capital from Miami.  The new owners plan to make significant streetscape improvements to the building.  However, despite the promised upgrades, rising rents have some residents concerned that smaller businesses may be forced to move to other parts of town. Consequently, neighborhoods such as the Grand Central District and the Fringe District (located on 9th St) have recently exploded in popularity due to their affordability.

Maple Street is most known for their signature biscuit sandwiches, offering ten unique creations on their menu.  The most popular is The Squawking Goat, a flaky buttery biscuit sandwich with an all-natural fried chicken breast, a fried goat cheese medallion, and house-made pepper jelly.

Empire Oyster Bar Gives Back to Tampa Bay

Empire Oyster Bar Gives Back to Tampa Bay

Empire Oyster is, without a doubt, the talk of the town. For the uninformed, I’m referring to the raw oyster bar that opened up at the beginning of March inside the EDGE District’s Intermezzo Coffee and Cocktails.  Coffee, cocktails and oysters.  It seems like an unlikely trio does it not?  Certainly I would’ve never predicted it, but the combination has proven to be a smashing success at 1111 Central Ave.

Intermezzo Coffee originally opened as a pop-up coffee bar in September of last year — planning to only be open for 3 months.  However after much success, owner Jarrett Sabatini resolved to keep Intermezzo Coffee open permanently.

In January,  Sabatini decided that instead of closing the coffee shop in the afternoon, he would simply transition the space into a cocktail lounge at 5pm every day.   Sabatini developed a fantastic drink menu that offers his own innovative creations as well as tried and true classics.  Again, he found success.

Three months later, a new decal went up in the window — “EMPIRE OYSTER”.  It was then that St. Petersburg was introduced to an incredible raw oyster experience courtesy of Kevin Joseph, Master Mermmelier at Empire Oyster.

Sweet Charlie's to Bring Rolled Ice Cream to Downtown St. Pete

Sweet Charlie's to Bring Rolled Ice Cream to Downtown St. Pete

From New York City to Los Angeles, Montreal to Atlanta, one of the latest food trends to sweep the country is rolled ice cream.  This summer, St. Pete will join the craze as Sweet Charlie's debuts at 1010 Central Avenue in the EDGE District.

The movement began last year when ice cream shops started springing up across the U.S. serving cups stuffed with small rolls of ice cream and topped with an assortment of extras, including fruit, candy, drizzles and more.  Lines regularly snake around the corner at establishments like 10Below in NYC and Hi B3ar in Boston.  Although the trend is brand new here in the States, this method of making ice cream has been around on the streets of Thailand and other Asian countries for quite a while.

Mini Doughnut Factory to Open in St. Pete This Spring

Mini Doughnut Factory to Open in St. Pete This Spring

Having debuted just over a year ago in Tampa, Mini Doughnut Factory has been a runaway hit for owners Patrick and Zezura Ruddell.  Every weekend, the line stretches out the door as patrons patiently wait to indulge in the Factory’s made-to-order mini morsels.

The mini doughnuts are approximately one third the size of a regular doughnut and come in 16 different flavors (or you can create your own).  One of the most popular flavors is the Sweet Pig, which is a vanilla cake doughnut with maple icing and bacon.  Another favorite is the Peanut Butter Crunch, vanilla cake doughnut with peanut butter icing and crushed butterfingers.  There are so many great flavors available and thanks to their small size, you won’t have to choose just one.  The doughnuts come in packs of 3, 6, 16, 25 or 35.  There are also gluten-free doughnuts available.

New York-style Rooftop Terrace and Restaurant Renovations Coming to Station House in Early 2017

Station House, which opened in 2014, will undergo urban upgrades beginning the first week of 2017. Located at 260 1st Ave S in Downtown St. Petersburg, the historic building, is home to five floors of tech, food, co-work, and pop-up space.

Among the urban upgrades planned are the addition of a “New York-style rooftop garden terrace." The new garden terrace will have a pergola shade system and extensive green-space with foliage and vines that will rival New York City’s best rooftops. The rooftop will be used primarily for intimate parties and dining.
