Retreat St. Pete to open upscale consignment shop in the Grand Central District
/A new upscale consignment shop will soon be joining the ranks of the small businesses in St. Pete’s Grand Central District. Retreat St. Pete will open this November at 1940 Central Avenue and will offer a carefully curated selection of furniture, décor, art, and designer goods at reasonable prices.
The business is being opened by celebrity and entrepreneur Rhonda Shear along with her husband Van Fagan. Shear is a regular correspondent on the Home Shopping Network where she sells a self-named line of lingerie and shape-wear for women. She also holds the title of Miss Louisiana USA 1975 and has starred in over a dozen films.
In early August the pair purchased the building at 1940 Central Avenue for $775,000. Jason Spitzer of Re/Max Metro along with Kathy and Tim Hewitt of The Hewitt Team partnered the transaction and represented both the buyer and seller. Most recently, the 3,150 square foot space was home to Johnson Upholstering, Inc., a local fabric and upholstery store that occupied the building for decades.
Interior and exterior renovations are planned which includes installing new storefront windows.
Shear and Fagan are partnering with veteran consigner experts Matt Worsham and Ashley Hamilton to create a “style oasis.” Hamilton previously managed Designer Exchange in West St. Pete while Worsham was in charge of home décor and furniture at Designers’ Consigner in St. Pete’s MLK Business District.
While the brick and mortar location is not yet open, the team has already launched an online store with items like designer handbags, antique furniture, and unique home décor.
Current offerings include items like a vintage Chanel bag which is priced at $1,595 along with Christian Louboutin pumps which are priced at $525. If you’re looking for more goods that are more affordable there’s also a wide selection of shirts and dresses that range in price from $10 to $100.
Retreat St. Pete will keep items on consignment for a maximum of 90 days. This will ensure that customers are greeted with new inventory each time they visit. As is standard with most consignment shops, the longer an item sits in the store, the higher the discount. After 30 days all items will be marked down by 20% with another 20% mark down at 60 days.
Once open, Retreat St. Pete will join a number of new business opening in the Grand Central District including LALA St. Pete, the Grand Central Brewhouse, Raining Berries, and Mammamia Gelato Italiano, among others.
