Tesla plans to build new Supercharger on 22nd Avenue in St. Pete

Good news for electric vehicle owners! Tesla is planning to open a new Supercharger in St. Pete!

According to documents filed with the City of St. Petersburg, the Tesla Supercharger is planned for the parking lot of the Lowe’s Home Improvement store at 2365 25th Street North.

The site is also home to a Wawa gas station that fronts 22nd Avenue North. Tesla has previously partnered to build its supercharging stations at other Wawa locations.

the station will be located in the northwest corner of the lowe’s home improvement parking lot at 2365 25th Street North.

The new Supercharger comes after the company opened a massive sales and service center earlier this year in Lealman. The facility features a 3,000-square-foot vehicle showroom, 45,000-square-foot service center, 50,000-square-foot vehicle storage facility with 170 parking spaces, 8,000-square-foot parts department, and customer lounge.

The new Supercharger will be among the largest in Tampa Bay with 20 fast chargers. Most Tesla Superchargers in the region have between eight to ten chargers.

While most electric vehicle owners charge their vehicles at home, fast chargers, like Tesla’s Superchargers, can add up to 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes.

Expanding electric vehicle charging infrastructure is a significant task amid a rapid rise in electric vehicles.

The proposed tesla supercharger fills a gap between two other south pinellas stations.

Over 300,000 new electric vehicles were sold in the United State in the second quarter of 2023, a 48.4% increase over 2022, with electric vehicle purchases increasing to a record 7.2% of market share.

Tesla currently has over 45,000 Superchargers worldwide and is planning to open its Supercharger network to non-Tesla electric vehicles.

The new charging station fills a gap between two other Tesla Superchargers in Pinellas County.

Other Tesla Superchargers in south Pinellas County are in Pinellas Park at 3101 Gandy Boulevard and in St. Pete’s Skyway Marina District at 3637 34th Street South.

A construction timeline for the Tesla Supercharger at 2365 25th Street North in St. Petersburg, FL has not been announced.
