Chipotle to open new location in St. Pete’s Skyway Marina District

Permits have been filed for a new Chipotle Mexican Grill in St. Petersburg’s Skyway Marina District.

The fast-casual chain, known for its streamlined offerings of burritos and bowls, is set to open in the retail space of the Addison Skyway Marina Apartments at 3951 34th Street South.

The Addison is a 308-unit apartment building that opened in 2022 on the site of a former underutilized strip center that was previously home to a K-Mart store.

The development includes a four-story apartment building along with a retail outparcel building. The retail building is not currently built and will include a drive-thru.

Aerial St. Pete: Skyway Marina District is rising in south St. Pete

This is the third quarter 2020 update of St. Pete Rising’s Aerial St. Pete series. Aerial St. Pete is a quarterly column we launched earlier this year which features exclusive aerial photography of projects under construction in St. Petersburg, FL. To accomplish this we have teamed up with Anthony Bove at AB3 Visuals.

In this update we’re taking a look at construction in the Skyway Marina District. The Skyway Marina District was founded in October 2013 and is located along 34th Street South between 30th Avenue South and 54th Street South. The district has undergone a series of changes in recent years including new place making signs and a renewed focus on bringing new businesses and residents to the area.

And these efforts are paying off! There are currently over 900 rental units planned for the district and of those, 850 are currently under construction. To put it another way, there are currently more residential units under construction in the Skyway Marina District than any other area of St. Pete.

These new units are concentrated in three projects – Sur Club, the Addison Skyway Marina, and Marina Walk.

Apartment Construction Boom Spreads Throughout St. Pete

Apartment Construction Boom Spreads Throughout St. Pete

St. Petersburg is in the midst of an apartment construction boom that is, so far, showing no signs of slowing down. Nearly 2,500 multifamily rental units are currently under construction in the Sunshine City, a number which may pale in comparison to some cities, but is significant given St. Pete’s historical growth. And it may surprise people that this building boom is not just happening in the downtown core, but in other corners of the city as well.

While St. Pete Rising has previously reported on apartment projects like 1701 Central, Artistry, Vantage, and The Exchange, which are all under construction in Downtown St. Pete, there are a number of projects going vertical outside of downtown. These projects are largely concentrated in two areas: the Skyway Marina District and the Gateway area. In aggregate, these units will add thousands of new residents to St. Petersburg. Here’s a summary of multifamily apartment developments being built outside of downtown.
