Mexican-inspired No View Bar to replace Grillin N Chillin on St. Pete Beach

Beginning in September, No View Bar will share the kitchen and dining space with Grillin’ N Chillin’ before fully taking over the building when Bowrey's lease expires in early 2025 | grillin’ N chillin’

A pair of seasoned restaurateurs will be opening a new concept alongside Grillin' N Chillin' in St. Pete Beach.

Business partners Austin Forsythe and Devynn Maurer are planning to open No View Bar, a new Mexican-inspired restaurant and bar, at 6708 Gulf Boulevard

The duo is subleasing the building from Jay Bowrey, owner of Grillin’ N Chillin’, a barbeque joint that currently operates in the space.

Beginning in September, No View Bar will share the kitchen and dining space with Grillin’ N Chillin’.

"The hardest part for us was finding the right location and right people to work with. We have been close friends with Jay for years and are comfortable with each other. St. Pete Beach is a tight-knit community supporting one another," said Forsythe in a conversation with St. Pete Rising. Forsythe has previously worked at The Toasted Monkey on St. Pete Beach and Ricky T's on Treasure Island.

The name "No View" pokes fun at how the restaurant and bar won’t have a picturesque beach view as the building is nestled in the middle of a block that contains Rick's Reef and Sola Bistro and Wine Bar.

No View Bar will have a new extended bar with seating for more than 30 people and an eclectic food and drink menu.

"We really want to be one of those new spots where you can get Mexican fare and affordable drinks past midnight," Forsythe said.

The owners envision a relaxing social atmosphere with electronic, dance, and Japanese taiko music - straying away from the typical Sublime and Tom Petty music other beach bars play.

The kitchen will be open all night, serving fresh seafood dishes and other Mexican-influenced plates, said Maurer, who grew up in Maryland working in her family's restaurant and later opened a local Mexican food truck business in Pinellas County.

The food menu will include items like Baja Mussels served with chorizo, white wine, aromatics, and sourdough. A Tex-Mex Melt will also be featured containing queso, tomatillo, spinach, and fresh jalapeño on sourdough.

Ceviche, salads, and nachos will also be available.

Maurer, who has food allergies, strives to be as health conscious as possible when carefully sourcing produce and goods from local vendors and products that don't carry additives.

No View Bar will serve beer and wine, but the partners plan to acquire a liquor license in the future.

The wine-based cocktails will be priced around $7 to encourage patrons to try a variety of drinks.

The drink menu will include fun cocktails like Can't Elope, a “tequila”-based concoction made with cantaloupe and mixed with agave, muddled oranges, limes, and drizzled with olive oil.

Another signature drink will be the Bustelo, My Heart, a “tequila” cocktail with Cafe Bustelo coffee, brown sugar, and lemon zest.

There will also be a pistachio matcha cocktail and other inventive drinks.

"One of our favorite bars is Willy's Burgers and Booze on Corey Avenue - it's earned that reputation of being affordable and tasty. We want to emulate the same thing here where people aren't too cautious in ordering something different," Forsythe said.

"This community is special and we want people to come here and have a good time. We have so many friends who own and manage other restaurants and bars here and they are all rallying behind us."

No View Bar will debut this September. It’ll be open five days a week between the late afternoon to 2 a.m. Hours may change based on customer demand.
