Sweetgreen announces opening date for downtown St. Pete location
/Nearly three years after being announced, an opening date is finally set for Sweetgreen in St. Petersburg’s trendy EDGE District.
The Los Angeles-based, fast-casual restaurant, which serves made-to-order salads, leased space at 1114 Central Avenue and will open on December 10th.
The original plan was for the popular salad restaurant to open in late 2022, but construction issues delayed the opening.
Sweetgreen’s menu includes an assortment of healthy meal options such as protein plates, bowls, and salads. It also offers kids’ meals and dishes made with locally sourced ingredients.
One of Sweetgreen’s most popular salads is the Kale Caesar Salad with roasted chicken, tomatoes, parmesan crisps, shaved parmesan, kale, chopped romaine, and a squeeze of lime all covered in Caesar dressing.
Other salad options include the BBQ Chicken, Italian Chopped, Guacamole Greens, Super Green Goddess, Buffalo Chicken, Hummus Crunch, and Garden Cobb.
The menu changes seasonally, although their most popular items are kept all year round.
Sweetgreen’s fall menu includes featured dishes like the Autumn Harvest Bowl which includes blackened chicken, maple glazed brussels sprouts, roasted sweet potatoes, apples, goat cheese, roasted almonds, wild rice, shredded kale, and balsamic vinaigrette.
In addition to protein plates, bowls, and salads, Sweetgreen also has sides like roasted sweet potatoes, hummus and focaccia, and rosemary focaccia. The featured seasonal side are maple glazed brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes served with a hot honey mustard sauce.
Customers can also customize their own bowl or salad.
Gluten-free and vegan salad bowls are also available for customers who have dietary restrictions.
The block where Sweetgreen is opening is undergoing a radical redevelopment called the EDGE Collective. Earlier this year, the first phase of the project opened, which included a 163-key Moxy hotel by Marriott at 1234 Central Avenue.
As part of the project, several new businesses have recently opened including Rose’s Coffee Bar; solidcore, a pilates studio; Floyd’s 99 Barber Shop. Sparrow, a bar and restaurant on the roof of the Moxy hotel, is slated to open later this year.
Also included in the first phase of the development are renovations to the building at 1246 Central Avenue, which will contain 8,000 square feet of restaurant space on the ground floor and 16,000 square feet of commercial space on the upper floors.
Bosphorous Turkish Cuisine, an authentic Turkish restaurant, will occupy 5,200 square feet on the ground floor.
A second phase of the EDGE Collective development was announced in late 2023 and will add a 20-story building with 350 apartments and an additional 45,000 square feet of retail space.
