Wendy’s Closet, a beloved vintage clothing shop celebrating 30 years in business, is relocating this summer from 2107 Central Avenue to a new space just a few blocks down in St. Pete’s Grand Central District.
Owner Wendy Barrett has purchased a 3,300-square-foot building at 1912 Central Avenue, formerly home to Goodyear Rubber Products, securing her presence in the neighborhood for years to come.
“This store will have a better layout, a working AC, and it’s right across from the Imagine Museum. It’s perfect, it will be bigger and better,” Barrett told St. Pete Rising.

After searching for a new space for the past few months, Barrett received the keys on Friday morning. She plans to open the new location by late July, with the current store operating through July 31st.
Wendy’s Closet on Central is a vibrant treasure trove of retro fashion: think ’70s suits, leather and denim workwear, band and sports tees, boots, sneakers, and quirky collectibles. It blends stylish vintage with contemporary flair, all in a well-organized, ever-refreshed collection.
“Most of our inventory comes from people who bring items to us,” she said. “We always offer a fair price when buying pieces.”

Wendy’s Closet first opened in 1995 at Pinellas Park’s Wagon Wheel Flea Market, where it occupied 5,000 square feet until the market’s sudden closure in March 2020. Just a few months later, in August 2020, the vintage shop found a new home on Central Avenue in St. Pete.
A moving sale will be held at 2107 Central Avenue the week before the transition, followed by a second sale during the first week of the new store’s debut.
Wendy’s on Central is open Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Customers interested in selling items can stop by between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. (the shop does not purchase items after 1 p.m).
Be sure to visit before the end of July, and follow Wendy’s Closet on Facebook and Instagram for updates on the move and upcoming sales.
