Coquina Cabanas, a 13-unit tropical townhome community, proposed for Coquina Key

A new townhome community has been unanimously approved for St. Pete’s Coquina Key neighborhood by the Development Review Commission.

Named Coquina Cabanas, the project will be located at 3850 Pompano Drive SE and is designed with a “coastal modern meets vintage Florida” vibe according to documents filed with the city.

The development will be on a 1.01-acre lot at 3850 Pompano Drive SE on Coquina Key in St. Petersburg, FL

Sight Development, a Tampa-based company who is also building Canvas City Homes in the Warehouse Arts District, is the developer behind the project.  

Coquina Cabanas will feature 13 units, each with three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms with 2,270 square feet of living space. Each residence will be three stories with a two-car garage.

“Coquina Cabanas strives to not only provide a high-quality housing project, but also to emphasize the local neighborhood,” the developer said in a presentation during the DRC meeting. “By showcasing the environment, lifestyle, and inclusive community accessible at quaint Coquina Key. Our brand was inspired by the recreational tropical lifestyle at Coquina Key,”  

To remain compatible with the surrounding neighborhood the three-story townhomes will only reach a maximum height of 36 feet.

The development is being planned for a 1.01-acre lot that’s currently owned by the Coquina Key Property Owners Association. The association is under contract to sell the lot to Sight. Terms of the sale were not disclosed but the land had previously been on the market for $845,000.  

Coquina Cabanas will be lushly landscaped with a private driveway.

In addition to each unit having a two-car garage, the community will also have five guest parking spaces.

Coquina Cabanas will be lushly landscaped and an existing grand oak tree on the site will be preserved. In addition to the grand oak, the development includes planting several new trees including such as royal palms, crape myrtles, foxtail palms, and magnolia trees.  

Pricing for the townhomes at Coquina Cabana and a construction timeline has not been announced.
