COhatch co-working space opens in historic building in downtown St. Pete
/More than two years after acquiring the former Harlan Hotel property at 15 8th Street North, in downtown St. Petersburg, COhatch has opened its doors to customers.
The Ohio-based co-working company bought the four-story, 14,000-square-foot building in April 2021 for $2.25 million. King State, a Tampa-based coffee roaster and brewery, will be opening soon at the same location, giving COhatch members and the public a convenient option for fueling up with locally made food and beverages.
The Harlan Hotel was originally built in 1925 during a time of extraordinary growth for St. Pete. The building was added to the city’s Register of Historic Places in 1997.
John Watkins, co-principal at COhatch Regional Development Ventures, the development arm of COhatch, said the company was always intent on preserving the distinct look and feel of the property.
“We love historically and architecturally significant buildings like The Harlan,” Watkins said. “We want to preserve the character of The Harlan and enhance it in a way that honors the legacy of the architecture.”
COhatch bills itself as, “better than a coffee shop, closer than the office, and a great way to get out of the house.”
And they aren’t wrong! It's not just a place to work. A COhatch membership gets you discounts at local businesses, access to networking events, complimentary WiFi, and unlimited tea, coffee, wine, and beer.
Members can also host life events, such as birthday parties, weddings, bridal showers, and more, at COhatch for free.
The St. Pete location offers a mix of open co-work space, private offices, and meeting rooms. Day passes can be purchased for as little as $30 while co-work memberships start at $109 per month for 10 hours of weekday access. An unlimited membership is available for $270 per month.
Private offices are available in a range of sizes, with pricing available upon request, and COhatch memberships come with a minimum of one hour of meeting room access per month.
The St. Pete COhatch location is staffed from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, but all members are able to access the space 24/7.
Private office tenants and unlimited members can also use COhatch as their business address for $25 per month.
All membership levels include access to COhatch’s other locations in the area — the company also operates a co-working space in Lakeland with outposts coming soon to Tampa, and Tarpon Springs. COhatch also has a presence in Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Columbus, Ohio; Indianapolis; and Pittsburgh, and members enjoy free access to those locations if needed.
“This step outside the Midwest is a significant one for us,” COhatch co-founder and CEO Matt Davis said. “We’re working to strengthen communities and improve lives, and we’re excited to be able to carry that mission outside of our headquarters region.”
