Progress continues on proposed 20-story tower in downtown St. Pete

A 20-story apartment building planned for downtown St. Petersburg is one step closer to breaking ground after securing construction financing and closing on a two-acre site at 3rd Avenue South and 17th Street.

The project was first announced in March and is being developed by Mill Creek Residential. Plans for the project were approved by City Council in June and will consist of a 20-story and an 8-story apartment building with 383 rental units, 15,316 square feet of commercial space, and a 475-space parking garage. This would be the company’s second project in downtown St. Pete after developing Modera Prime 235, now known as Cottonwood Bayview, in 2014.

The Manhattan, which was first announced in May, is being developed by LifeStar Living, a Sarasota-based company that specializes in developing and managing upscale, resort-style senior living communities.

Mayor Kriseman selects Midtown Development for Tropicana Field redevelopment

After a year and a half long process, Mayor Rick Kriseman announced this afternoon his selection of Midtown Development to helm the 86-acre Tropicana Field redevelopment.

In July 2020, the City released a Request for Proposal (RFP) which sought out groups seeking to be the master developer for the property.

In the RFP, the City outlined their desire to partner with a development team to establish a mixed-use neighborhood that recognizes the diverse and rich culture of St. Petersburg while also implementing principles of Smart Cities, sustainability, and a healthy community.

A full-service New American vegan restaurant is opening in St. Pete’s Grand Central District this spring.

Good Intentions will be located at 1900 1st Avenue South between Creative Clay and Spitfire Comedy House and is being spearheaded by the owners of Golden Dinosaurs, Black Radish, and Nah Dogs.

Drawing influence and inspiration from their first vegan businesses, the owners will soon launch Good Intentions and expand on their vision of offering delicious, community-centric vegan food.

18-story condo tower, Reflection, to break ground in February in downtown St. Pete

An 18-story condominium tower near Mirror Lake in downtown St. Pete is moving closer towards becoming a reality.

Reflection, an 88-unit tower that is proposed for the northeast corner of 3rd Avenue North and 8th Street, has reached a new sales milestone: over 60% of the building has been pre-sold and converted to contract.

The milestone was announced at a celebration at The Floridian Social Club in late October that was attended by 200 people including the development team and many of the project’s partners.

A plant-based cafe by Squeeze Juice Works is coming to St. Pete

A new plant-based café and cold-pressed juice bar is opening next month in Historic Uptown. The Works is being brought to life by Kelly Lessem, the owner of the popular Squeeze Juice Works, with help from managing partners Kendra Hardesty and Meaghan Martin.

The Works will be located at 495 7th Avenue North just a half mile north of downtown St. Pete and overlooking the beautiful Round Lake Park.

The space was recently vacated by Pete’s General, one of St. Pete’s favorite bagel shops. Steven Peterman, owner of Pete’s General, decided to close the Uptown location in order to focus on the newer, larger storefront in the Grand Central District.

A new cocktail lounge and cafe is now open in the Grand Central District. Dirty Laundry, located at 1742 Central Avenue, is helmed by Stephen Schrutt, the mind behind many of St. Pete’s favorite hangouts like The Avenue, Park & Rec, and No Vacancy.

First of all, I have no doubt that people will walk by thinking this is a real laundromat. However, the curious will discover that Dirty Laundry is the only laundromat that will leave you dirtier than when you came in.

Upon stepping over the threshold, you’ll quickly notice that not everything is as it seems. It’s all a front for St. Pete’s newest Latin-inspired café.

Construction begins on three-story food hall Central Park in downtown St. Pete

A construction fence was erected last week around the perimeter of the former Dome Grill located at 551 Central Avenue in downtown St. Pete. This morning, a ceremonial groundbreaking was held to kick off construction on Central Park St. Pete, a one-of-a-kind three-story food hall slated to open next summer.

In addition to three floors of culinary experiences, a basement will be excavated under the former Woolworth’s building for a high-end speakeasy bar.

The ground floor will contain a large bar and a food court with a variety of different cuisines. Although no specific concepts have been announced, Natalia Levey, Owner of Central Park, promises to offer a mix of health-conscious options and international flavors.

On Monday, The St Pete Community Planning and Preservation Commission (CPPC) unanimously approved amendments to a mixed-use development agreement that would bring residential units, a restaurant, and a public marina to Snug Harbor.

The currently vacant, 39-acre property is south of Gandy Blvd and East of San Fernando Blvd NE and consists of three combined parcels known as Gandy Center, Pirates Cove, and Riviera.

The original development agreement, approved in 2009, outlined plans to build 120 apartment units, a commercial marina with 45 wet slips, 72,000 square feet of retail space, and three restaurants comprising 21,000 square feet on the northern portion of the property, along with 256 single family or townhome residential units and 225 private docks on the southern parcel.
