Plan to preserve historic building and build condos on Mirror Lake approved by Development Review Commission

Local developer Backstreets Capital is proceeding forward with plans to preserve a historically significant property while building a new luxury condo building fronting Mirror Lake in downtown St. Pete.

During a Development Review Commission (DRC) meeting on Wednesday, members unanimously approved a setback variance request for the new project at 250 Mirror Lake Drive North.

The 0.47-acre site is currently home to an 87-year-old building that will be restored into a single-family home. Additionally, a new two-story residence will be built on the northeast corner of the property and an 18-unit condo building will be constructed on the west side of the property on what is currently a vacant lot.

New sports bar Who’s on First replaces Thirsty First in downtown St. Pete

Sports fanatics have a new destination in downtown St. Pete!

Who’s on First, the new elevated sports bar named after the iconic Abbott and Costello baseball comedy routine, quietly opened its doors at 119 1st Avenue North last week.

The space was formerly home to Thirsty First, which is relocating to 515 Central Avenue.

Who's on First is the latest concept from the Drink St. Pete hospitality group, which is opening two other bars and restaurants - Irish party bar Dublin Drop and local watering hole There Goes The Neighborhood - that will be connected to Who's on First, allowing patrons to hop to all three bars via connected doorways.

The ownership group is also behind a handful of other popular downtown bars, such as One Night Stand, Tequila Daisy, Whiskey Exchange, and Pour Judgement.
