Wildflower Ice Cream to bring made-to-order soft-serve to St. Pete this winter

A new locally owned and operated ice cream shop serving customizable, blended soft-serve is coming soon to Crescent Heights in St. Pete.

Wildflower Ice Cream plans to be the neighborhood go-to sweet shop at 2603 Dr. MLK Jr. Street North, replacing the shuttered House of Pipes and Cigars shop. The Violet Stone, a local pizzeria that went viral earlier this year, will relocate to a neighboring storefront in the coming months.

The new business, founded by St. Pete residents Steve and Sarah McGarry, will use a Swirl Freeze Blending Machine, an innovative all-in-one machine that easily and quickly swirls ice cream with candies, fruits, nuts, or cookies to create an infinite variety of flavor combinations.

Aldi to replace Winn-Dixie on Dr. MLK Jr. Street North in St. Petersburg

One of St. Petersburg's Winn-Dixie grocery stores is in line to be converted into an Aldi.

The German-based discount grocery chain will soon commence a $1.7 million renovation of the 46,048-square-foot Winn-Dixie at 3327 Dr. MLK Jr. Street North, according to an application filed in the city.

Today, Winn-Dixie has multiple stores throughout St. Pete, while Aldi has three existing stores at 34th Street North, 22nd Avenue North, and 34th Street South.

Launch Entertainment, a Rhode Island-based leading indoor family entertainment franchise, will open a new center in the mall that will feature an arcade, bowling alley, trampolines, laser tag, virtual reality games, a "ninja" obstacle course, and a restaurant and bar.

Launch Entertainment will commence a $2.5 million remodel of an existing 24,449-square-foot space in the mall.

Plan to preserve historic building and build condos on Mirror Lake approved by Development Review Commission

Local developer Backstreets Capital is proceeding forward with plans to preserve a historically significant property while building a new luxury condo building fronting Mirror Lake in downtown St. Pete.

During a Development Review Commission (DRC) meeting on Wednesday, members unanimously approved a setback variance request for the new project at 250 Mirror Lake Drive North.

The 0.47-acre site is currently home to an 87-year-old building that will be restored into a single-family home. Additionally, a new two-story residence will be built on the northeast corner of the property and an 18-unit condo building will be constructed on the west side of the property on what is currently a vacant lot.
