Poblanos Mexican Grill and Bar to replace Village Inn in Largo

The family-owned and operated Poblanos Mexican Grill and Bar is expanding with a new location in Largo.

The restaurant recently secured a ten-year lease at 2659 Roosevelt Boulevard in the newly constructed, 11,500-square-foot Roosevelt Crossing retail strip, located at the southeast corner of Roosevelt Boulevard and US 19, nestled between Wawa and Walmart.

Poblanos, named after the Poblano pepper native to Puebla, Mexico, will occupy a 4,600-square-foot space previously home to the Village Inn breakfast chain, which closed earlier this year.

The new restaurant location is expected to open this fall, restaurant owner Juan Yannuzzi told St. Pete Rising.

The restaurant will join neighboring businesses Kitsune Sushi, Hair Mechanix, and Nail Craze.

Poblanos, which debuted in 2004, currently has two Tampa Bay locations at 2451 McMullen Booth Road in Clearwater and 5779 53rd Avenue East in Bradenton, along with another in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Each location features an inviting, eclectic atmosphere with colorful Spanish mosaic tiles and wall art that celebrates Mexican heritage.

Many diners start with the signature tableside “Guac This Way” guacamole, made with two whole avocados, red onions, lime, cilantro, garlic, fresh jalapeños, and Cotija cheese.

The menu includes Mexican staples such as tacos, burritos, tamales, quesadillas, fajitas, and chile relleno (stuffed peppers), each prepared with Poblanos’ distinctive twist.

One of the more popular items is The BTO, the founder’s favorite burrito, filled with carne asada, sticky rice, pinto beans, and Abuela’s Guacamole (“home-style” chunky, made-to-order guacamole), topped with salsa verde and sour cream.

Tacos and burritos can be filled with meats, including shredded chicken, shrimp, fish, steak, and beef barbacoa.

The menu also includes low-carb options, soups, salads, and specialty dishes such as Jalisco Lime Chicken, a grilled chicken breast marinated in the restaurant’s signature garlic and lime tequila sauce, topped with grilled vegetables and served with Mexican rice.

To drink, guests can choose from sangrias, mojitos, margaritas, house cocktails, and craft beers.

Poblanos also offers Jarritos, a popular Mexican soda available in fruity flavors, and horchata, a traditional sweet drink made from creamy rice milk, vanilla, and cinnamon.

For dessert, the restaurant serves traditional Mexican sweets such as flan, homemade churros, and sopapillas, which are deep-fried flour tortillas topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzled with honey, butter, cinnamon, and a light chocolate syrup.

The owner plans to open the restaurant by September or October.
