Tony D’s Sub Shop, a new old-school Italian sandwich spot serving hot and cold subs made from scratch, has officially opened at 217 Central Avenue in downtown St. Pete.

With green checkerboard vinyl floors, family photos lining exposed brick and white walls, and a counter stocked with meats and cheeses, Tony D’s feels like a neighborhood corner deli crossed with an Italian family kitchen.

Tony D’s is the latest concept from Ohio-based Forward Hospitality Group, which also owns the neighboring Glamper bar and restaurant, which is undergoing renovations. The group is also behind Good Night John Boy, Welcome to the Farm, and My Rich Uncle.

The sub shop opened on January 9th and is currently serving lunch and dinner into the late evening.

Sandwiches range from $11 to $14, with meats sliced in-house and assembled on a butcher block. Guests can customize their subs with sliced or chopped ingredients, or opt for one of the shop’s specialty creations.

“This menu is a tribute to our family and to our grandfather, Tony Deliberato, whose love of food, tradition, and bringing people together shaped everything we do,” the team said. “Each sandwich is named after a person or place that helped define our story. Every bite is meant to be shared the same way our meals always were, around a table with family.”

Among the classics is The Family Italian, stacked with Genoa salami, pepperoni, capicola, Italian ham, and provolone, finished with onions and “the works”: shredded lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, and Tony D’s house sauce.

Other standouts include Phil’s Roast Beef, layered with roast beef, horseradish cream, arugula, pistachio pesto, and provolone, and Rose’s Turkey, featuring seasoned oven-roasted turkey, provolone, roasted red peppers, arugula, tomato, basil aioli, balsamic glaze, and Tony D’s house sauce.

Hot subs are also available, including Elda’s Chicken Parm with a crispy chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, provolone, house-made marinara, and basil aioli.

Several signature subs are named for meaningful places, including Civita Luparella, a small village in the Chieti province of Italy’s Abruzzo region. The sandwich is piled high with mortadella and Italian ham, layered with arugula, pistachio pesto, and burrata, then finished with salt and pepper, Tony D’s house sauce, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze.

Others nod to American destinations include the Las Vegas sub, which includes seasoned oven-roasted turkey, artichokes, roasted peppers, provolone, avocado, shredded lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, and the works.

All bread is toasted, whether the sub is served hot or cold.

The menu also includes chicken fingers, the Tony Smashburger with two patties, and a Caesar Wrap—a spinach wrap filled with crispy or grilled chicken tenders, artisan romaine, house-made Caesar dressing, and garlic parmesan croutons.

Tony D’s is currently in a soft-opening phase, operating daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with weekend hours expected to extend to accommodate late-night cravings.
