Valhalla Bakery reopens in shared space with Valkyrie Doughnuts in the Grand Central District

Customers can continue indulging in Valhalla Bakery's Pistachio Rose Bar and sweet lattes just four doors down from their original St. Pete Grand Central District location.

The vegan bakery, named after the Viking Heaven, has relocated its operations at 2462 Central Avenue into the neighboring Valkyrie Doughnuts space at 2444 Central Avenue.

Valhalla Bakery owner Celine Beltgens, who also owns Valkyrie Doughnuts, explained it wasn't financially feasible to continue operations in separate locations due to the spiking costs of ingredients and fluctuations in today's economy, making it a struggle for small businesses to survive on lower profits.

Local developer plans to convert historic church in Old Northeast into residences

A local developer may convert the historic 98-year-old Westminster Presbyterian Church in St. Pete's Old Northeast neighborhood into residences. 

Pinellas Park-based Belleair Development Group, which has delivered multiple commercial retail and residential projects throughout St. Petersburg, is proposing to convert the former old school and church at 126 11th Avenue Northeast into one single-family home and two townhomes. 

The Westminster Presbyterian Church, designed in 1926 by well-known architect Archie Parrish, and has sat dormant for over a decade and is listed as a local historic landmark in the St. Petersburg Register of Historic Places.

City receives two proposals to redevelop Tangerine Plaza in south St. Pete

The long-dormant Tangerine Plaza in south St. Petersburg may be redeveloped into an affordable housing community or culinary arts center - becoming a  true economic asset in the Deuces community.

St. Petersburg-based real estate firm Stoneweg US, the same firm redeveloping the Coquina Key Plaza, and faith-based nonprofit group Positive Impact Ministries have submitted bids to the city, vying to purchase and revitalize the retail center at 1794 22nd Street South, which has a few active tenants. 

The retail center was formerly anchored by a Sweetbay Supermarket and then a Walmart Neighborhood Market. Since Walmart closed its doors in 2017, the 40,000-square-foot grocery space has remained vacant.

In partnership with planning firm WSP, the Grand Central District Association has completed a master plan study, which offers a variety of recommendations to aid in the future growth of St. Pete's main street just west of downtown St. Pete.

The Grand Central District is bound by 16th Street to the east, 31st Street to the west, 1st Avenue North, and 1st Avenue South.

The new ownership group of the former waterfront resort Magnuson Hotel Marina Cove, located on the southern tip of St. Petersburg, has brought new life to the beachfront oasis.

Since buying the 18-acre property at 6800 Sunshine Skyway Lane South in 2022 for over $17 million, investor Ben Willner and his team have been feverishly renovating the property that had fallen into disrepair and closed in 2020.

The resort, now named SkyBeach Hotel and Marina, contains 113 renovated guest rooms, a larger private beachfront, a rebuilt marina, a sports complex with pickleball courts, a two-story beachfront bar, a cafe, a food truck, and more.

A brewhouse with a Prosecco bar, a beer garden, and a live music stage is coming to the former home of The Brutalist Temple of Beer in St. Petersburg. 

Residents Richie and Jill Hamm recently purchased the 10,747-square-foot industrial property at 1776 11th Avenue North in a $2.3 million deal.

The two-story building, located between the Historic Uptown and the North Kenwood neighborhoods, was formerly home to Flying Boat Brewing Company and The Brutalist Temple of Beer, which was owned and operated by Tampa’s King State Coffee Roasters.

$500 million TradeWinds Resort expansion moves forward on St. Pete Beach

TradeWinds Island Resort is one step closer to starting work on a $500 million transformation of its 25-acre St. Pete Beach property.

After a nearly six-hour-long St. Pete Beach Planning Committee, the members unanimously approved a development agreement and conditional use permit (CUP) for the redevelopment of the beachfront resort at 5500 Gulf Boulevard that will bring three new hotels and amenities to the property.

TradeWinds, which operates the Island Grand and RumFish Beach Resorts, currently has 967 hotel keys, and 102,373 square feet of retail and restaurant space.

Hundreds of contractors from Suffolk Construction are pouring concrete floor by floor for 400 Central, a 46-story luxury condominium tower under construction in downtown St. Pete. The tower, which adds a floor every six days, is now more than halfway complete at 250 feet high.

New York billionaire John Catsimatidis Sr., founder of Red Apple Real Estate, and select media members, climbed inside a freight elevator and were hoisted up to the newly completed floors to catch a glimpse of the expansive views from what will soon be the tallest residential tower on Florida’s west coast.

The terraces of the future condos on the 25th floor boast panoramic views of the downtown core and Mirror Lake to the edge of the waterfront and sights of the foggy Sunshine Skyway Bridge in the distance.
