Read More“In an urban environment, one of the biggest deterrents of pedestrian traffic is a vacant lot,” says Jonathan Daou, owner of Eastman Equity, a commercial real estate investment firm. Daou was able to recognize the EDGE District’s potential before its recent explosion in popularity.
In 2014, he purchased a 1.5 acre plot of land at 930 Central Avenue for $1.7 million with the desire to renovate the vacant, dilapidated parcels and fill the empty lots that permeated the district. Since then, Daou has amassed a significant portfolio of properties in the EDGE District with plans of turning the area into the most vibrant, pedestrian-friendly neighborhood in Downtown St. Pete.
In 2014 when Station House opened its doors, it was seen as one of the more ambitious reuse projects in Downtown St. Pete. Housed in a historic building erected in 1911, which was originally used as a fire station, a hotel called the Holland Hotel, and then a train station, Station House was seamlessly transformed into 5 floors of tech, food, co-work and pop-up space. Nearly two years after its opening, Station House’s office suites are now 100% occupied with approximately 30 people on the waiting list.
Building on their tremendous popularity, owner Steve Gianfilippo will take Station House’s success to the next level by expanding the concept into the trendy Central Arts District of Downtown St. Pete.

Last Friday, it was revealed that Red Apple Group of New York City is planning on buying the 400 block containing the recognizable "cheesegrater" building for an undisclosed price.
For nearly a decade, ramen bars have been thriving in places like New York City and Los Angeles. Hungry patrons sometimes wait for hours to enjoy an oversized bowl of Japanese noodle soup topped with an assortment of fresh vegetables and meats. In a few weeks, you can add St. Pete to the list of cities swept up in the ramen craze.
Opening in the up-and-coming EDGE District, Buya Ramen (pronounced boo-yah!) will provide an izakaya, or Japanese gastropub, atmosphere that focuses on much more than just a bowl of Japanese comfort food. In addition to ramen, owner/operator Michael Sponaugle says, “We will have the largest selection of Japanese whiskey in the Tampa Bay area, if not Florida. By the time we are done, we hope to have the largest selection on the east coast.”
After years of sitting vacant, more details have been announced about the planned museum at 100 Central Ave, the former site of now-defunct Universal Healthcare. Last night Tom James, Executive Chairman of Raymond James Financial, revealed details about his highly anticipated legacy project: the Tom and Mary James Museum of Western and Wildlife Art.
